Indigenous Traditional Ecological Knowledge as a Method of Healing

Description: Indigenous languages and cultures contain within them precious teachings about the natural world. We will engage this knowledge, and discuss the field of Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK), as we think about the important ways these teachings are healing—for ourselves, our Tribal communities, and all of Creation.

In this class, we will:

  1. learn definitions and examples of TEK from academic research, including from UO’s Indigenous TEK initiative;
  2. consider our own communities’ TEK;
  3. discuss how TEK can be a source of wellness and healing;
  4. learn sial science research methods to create a digital story about TEK and healing.
