Summer Institute 2026 Details

Dates

Summer Institute 2026 will be held from Sunday June 21 - 28 

  • SI Starts on June 21 with Dorm check in at 2 pm PDT, activities beginning in the afternoon

  • SI Ends on Saturday June 27 by 5 pm PDT

  • Dorm check out on Sunday June 28 by Noon PDT

Teacher Strands & Daily Schedule

There will be a beginning teacher strand and an experienced teacher strand to choose from. Stay tuned for more information on course content and the instructor line up. 

Beginner Language Teaching Methods

  • This course provides beginning Indigenous language teachers with Language Teaching Methodologies, which we define as less than 1 year of language teaching experience

  • Instructors: Rolinda Want & Hailey Want

Experienced Language Teaching Methods

  • This course provides experienced Indigenous language teachers with advanced Language Teaching Methodologies, which we define as language teachers with 1+ years of language teaching experience.

  • Instructor: Dr. Racquel Sapién

niimíipuum ‘inmíiwit: Nez Perce Seasonal Round

  • This course teaches students about how to integrate cultural practices and traditions into a year-long Indigenous language curriculum.

  • Instructor: Tatlo (Thomas Gregory)

Linguistics for Tribal Communication

  • This course reviews the concepts, methods, and theories from the field of linguistics and provides concrete examples of how they can be used in practice for Tribal Communities engaging in language revitalization work.

  • Instructor: Dr. Joseph Dupris

Language Nests at Home

  • This course teaches students about Language Nesting at home and how this is integral to Indigenous language revitalization.

  • Instructor: Dr. Zalmai Zahir

Technology Workshop (Tech for Teaching)

  • This course provides an overview of different technologies that are useful for Indigenous language teaching

  • Instructors: Elizabeth Bryant & Kodi Sidoti

Tuition Pricing

Regular Adult Participation: $1,300 per person. Included in tuition: SI Classes, TRaiLS 2026 participation, SNAIL 2026 participation, Dinner on June 21 (Sunday) and June 26 (Friday), Lunch June 21 - 26, and access to evening activities at the Many Nations Longhouse. 

Elders: We may have limited partial sponsorships for elders who support community language efforts and who could otherwise not attend. Those offered will be given on a first come, first served basis. Please contact us at nalrc@uoregon.edu for more information. 

UO Housing Costs

Participants are able to stay in UO Conference Housing during SI. There are single and double room options available. Please consult with the table below for the different housing options available. All Housing options include: daily breakfast, dinner on days not included in general tuition, towels, bedding, and a private bath. 

Check in for UO Housing is 2 pm PDT on June 21. Check out for the 6 Day Option is Noon on June 27. Check out for the 7 Day Option is Noon on June 28.

Note that in order to book a double room, you will need to provide a roommate's name and both must book for the same number of nights.

Parking Costs

Parking costs have not yet been set by UO Transportation Services. Based on previous years, we are estimating $40 for daytime parking only and $45 for daytime and overnight parking.
